Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at all of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the title advantage from Piastri by just one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, outpaced the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before sprint qualifying scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the championship fight, trailing with a 36-point deficit Norris, finished in P17 as his Red Bull team ran a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, if briefly, when he rotated at corner four early in the session.
Tsunoda slid over the curbs on exit before rotating through the escape zone, and was lucky to get away with just a light touch of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the very end of the practice, rotating twice through the high-speed corner leading to the final corner on to the main straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th place, trailing teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds slower than Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
